Now, with the joyous Revival, the five-track EP Wright will release May 10th, she has penned empowering affirmations to the present and future. That LP, which coincided with Wright’s coming-out and her Like Me memoir, forever altered the ACM Award-winning country singer’s career trajectory but it allowed her the freedom to heal from years of concealing her truth.Īlthough shaded in melancholy, the Kansas native’s most recent release, the 2018 holiday EP Santa Will Find You, was as much a love letter to her younger self as it was to her twin sons with wife Lauren Blitzer-Wright. Since her brilliant 2010 LP Lifted Off the Ground, Chely Wright’s musical output has been both startlingly confessional and increasingly eclectic. ![]()

Oshetsky nails the themes of motherhood, the isolation and depression from being left at home with a baby, the inability to see the flaws and often spoiling of the child, the sacrifice of the mother's career and health, and finally the heartbreak when the child grows up and no longer needs the mother's care and advice. She wishes the baby to be brought up "as she is", while her husband totters between repulsion at the strange baby or desperately seeking medical cures for her. It instead shows motherhood through the lens of Tiny, our protagonist, who sees the world through a less than "normal" perspective, having a baby with her owl lover. ![]() ![]() ![]() “It’s a wonder that any woman ever agrees to be a mother, when the fruits of motherhood are inevitably conflict and remorse, to be followed by death and disembowelment.” - ChouetteĬhouette is a fantastical, dark, book about motherhood, but where it shines is that it avoids general flowery descriptions of birth, or veer too deeply into metaphors. Lehane paints vivid descriptive pictures of his characters such as this description of Annabeth’s father, Theo Savage. The story involves several mysteries that seem to be intertwined, and Lehane does a masterful job of disentangling and resolving them. ![]() He paints scenes of family life of both comradely and combative relationships and sets the story up with Sean, Jimmy, and Dave playing on the street as boys when a strange event occurs that will bring the three of them - Jimmy as a former felon, Sean as a police officer, and Dave as someone very deeply scarred by the opening event who never figures out how to fight off his internal image of the Boy who Escaped from Wolves.
